Francois Lesage, the heir to the legendary embroidery workshop Lesage that has long embellished Paris couture houses' most fantastic creations, has died. He was 82.
In a statement, Maison Lesage said he died early Thursday "after a long battle against his illness," without providing any details.
Born on March 31, 1929 into a family of embroiders, Lesage once commented that he never had any doubt as to his purpose in life, "given I was born into a pile of beads and sequins," according to the statement.
After taking over the embroidery studio founded by his father as a young man, he became an icon of Paris' fashion world.
The house worked for labels including Yves Saint Laurent and Chanel.
