Cavalli at first Tel Aviv Fashion Week since 80's

Roberto Cavalli launched the first Fashion Week to take place in Tel Aviv in 30 years on Monday, November 21.The 71-year-old Italian designer showcased his Spring 2012 collection at the gala show, with long gowns, sequins and feathers dominating the aesthetic.

The collection had initially been shown at Milan Fashion Week earlier this year, although Cavalli unveiled it for a second time in honor of Tel Aviv Fashion Week, which is the result of collaboration between Italy's fashion council, the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, and Israeli fashion executives.

Cavalli has played an integral role in the rebirth of the event due to Milan and Tel Aviv being sister cities.
"I feel that fashion today... is international because all of you read the same magazines, we watch the same movies and fashion is there. From there you get an idea what to buy," he explained at a press conference.
From now on there will be two Tel Aviv Fashion Weeks each year, with plans already underway for an April 2012 event.

The current Tel Aviv Fashion Week finishes November 24, showcasing creations from Israeli designers including Sasson Kedem, Mira Zwillinger, Dorin Frankfurt, Gideon Oberson, and Alon Livne.
Following a new agreement, Israeli designers will also gain the chance to show at the semi-annual Milan Fashion Week, with Israel suggesting ten potential young designers before Italy selects a final five.
The Milan Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2012 womenswear shows will take place February 22-28, 2012.
